How to install a plugin on wordpress – FTP, Cpanel, wp-admin

There are 3 ways to install a plugin on WordPress.

1. Using FTP
2. Cpanel
3. Using wp-admin

Let’s walk through these methods.

1. Install a plugin with  FTP(Hectic and a bit tricky)

FTP is used to connect to the server where your files are hosted. You will need a few pre requisites to install a plugin on WordPress through FTP. In this example I’m going to use woocommerce plugin.

1. Download a ftp agent from File zilla client
2. You will need to connect to the server your files have been hosted on. You will find these details from your web hosting company. DEtails To BE PROVIDED.
3. click on connect after entering all the details.
4. Navigate to wp-content, click on plugins.
Unzip the plugin
5. Now navigate wp-admin dashboard
6. Click on plugins on the left hand side
7. Find the installed plugin there and activate.

Install a plugin with Cpanel:

  1. Login to your Cpanel
  2. Navigate to wp-content, click on plugins.
  3. Unzip the plugin
  4. Now navigate wp-admin dashboard
  5. Click on plugins on the left hand side on wordpress wp-admin dashboard
  6. Find the installed plugin there and activate.

Install a plugin with wordpress dashboard

  1. Login to your wp-admin using
  2. Navigate to wp-content, click on plugins.
  3. Download the plugin you require from wordpress.org
  4. Click on plugins from wordpress dashboard(left panel)
  5. Click on add new from top center
  6. Click on Upload
  7. Click on browse, and point the file to the downloaded location
  8. Click on upload and activate.
